Windows Server 2008 R2
Benefits for Web Administrators
Reliability and scalability
Lower total cost of ownership (TCO) and improved migration capability bring true flexibility.
Virtual Machine (VM) files
In Windows Server 2008 R2, physical servers are converted to Virtual Machine (VM) files, which can be centrally stored, managed and dynamically deployed, based on load and available resources.
The VM platform is built on Hyper-V® 2.0 and uses a 64-bit-only architecture. It enables completely seamless ‘behind the scenes’ mirroring from one server to another, (live migration), and with no loss of uptime (previously a user would expect some loss of uptime during the transfer) - £10pm additional option (classed as ‘High availability’ in the purchase menu).
By reducing the number of required physical machines and their associated power requirements, you can help to dramatically improve your server utilization and business agility.
VM will:
- Distribute workloads by grouping servers in failover clusters
- Protect corporate data assets stored on the cluster servers with inclusive network data encryption and authentication
- Make additional storage available without shutting down the cluster or affecting the applications and services.
- Provide lower TCO
- Ensure high availability of your mission critical services and applications
- Increase application throughput, since the load is shared across multiple servers
- Lower maintenance windows
- Enable business continuity and high availability during both planned and unplanned downtimes.
